Although we became a non-profit in October, 2017, this ministry began November 18th, 2000 as a Thanksgiving Holiday effort, by the Glad Tidings Community Church in Oakland, CA, pastored by Rev. Ronald L. Rogers, Sr., to bless the homeless and those less fortunate than ourselves, with a Thanksgiving meal, and clothing. We distributed 100 meals on our first outreach! We were so excited after that experience we wanted to continue in this effort and received guidance and encouragement from Rev. Rogers to press on! In appreciation to him his name shares in the title of this organization.
This ministry has always been an out-of-pocket expense by those who participate, and still is to this day. It is a sacrificial offering in personal finances and time, not only to teach us as adults to be grateful for what we have, but also to teach children a very important lesson about giving. It is intended for those sincerely seeking to serve God in this area, to help spread the Word of God, pray for, worship with and encourage those in need. We often call it “Food for the Body and Food for the Soul”.
After the initial outreach, it became a smaller group effort, which included me, a childhood friend, Sherolyn Ridgell, and Rev. Phillip Daniels. The group we began to feed consisted of 10-15 people living under the 580 overpass in Emeryville, CA. After they were disbursed in April of 2001, we continued our efforts by individually packing up meals, and driving around the Oakland, and sometimes Emeryville, and Berkeley communities to distribute meals, along with clothing, blankets, and later toiletries and dog food packages (CeCe’s Ministry) for their four legged companions. Since then, every third Saturday of the month, come rain or shine, our small group has gathered together to prepare, package, and distribute meals. There is nothing like hearing someone say, when you ask if they are hungry, “I was just asking the Lord where I was going to find something to eat today, and here you all come!” and be able to respond, “That’s how He works! He’s a Right on Time God!” We do not expect those who are in need to find us, but we Trust in God to lead us to those that need us the most on that day! Our service is performed with sincerity, with joy, in thanksgiving, and gratitude! Each meal is prepared with love for the many blessings God has bestowed upon us! We are also blessed to have only missed one month during our 17+ years of service to Him! God is truly good!!
When you help the poor you are lending to the Lord ~ and He pays wonderful interest on your loan! (Proverbs 19:17 ~ Living Bible)
We strive to live our lives pleasing in God’s sight, and to serve Him to the best of our abilities! It is truly a blessing to be a blessing! We, who are able, take so much for granted, like our health and strength, our homes, food and clothing, even our jobs! Just think about it! The Lord has blessed us so abundantly in these areas, and He did not have to do it!!...And He did not do it so we can just sit back and enjoy, but for us to give back and bring joy! We never know...We may be entertaining an Angel!...
On October 23, 2017 we received our 501(c)(3) status, and announced on November 18, 2017 (the beginning of our 17th year) the birth of Jehovah Jireh - R.L. Rogers Outreach Ministries dba Thru Random Acts. Our prayer is to continue in our efforts to provide meals, clothing, encouragement, and to help those in need.
Your generous gift will help us fund our mission to help those in need. Together, we can make a difference.
